I’m trying to stay afloat, stay informed, and say no to doomscrolling. These are some habits that have somewhat helped my mental health lately:

  1. Stick to 1 national + 1 local news source without endless scrolling feeds. (Newspaper homepage, daily newsletter, podcast…)
  2. Try to read them once in the morning and once in the late afternoon. Even better if there’s something else coming up on my calendar - a guardrail between me and the abyss. But really give proper attention to what’s going on - this is about awareness, not avoidance. Unless it’s after 8 PM.
  3. If the headline conceals an article’s actual subject, it’s probably not newsworthy in the first place. If they do this a lot, it means the publisher’s whole strategy is to make readers angry or scared.
  4. Upgrade from ASMR to Hypnosis videos for sleep or anxiety attacks.
  5. Spend more money on therapy and psychiatry than on groceries 🫠
